At my school in Kara we have a book list with books we have to read. When we get done with one we have to read another. Bruchko is one of my favorite books I’ve read so far. Bruchko is about a boy who is captured by the Motilone Indians of Colombia. His adventures in South America are beyond anyone’s imagination. He meets a friend named Bobarishora and he can’t pronounce his name so he calls him Bobby.
Reading this book made me rethink everything in my life, and I could not find one thing that was as bad as he had. My favorite part in this true story is when Bruchko was lying halfway dead on a rock by the beach. He had prayed to God a few hours before, and suddenly he found bananas floating in the ocean. That makes me want to have more faith in God. Even though I’m already baptized, there is always room for more faith in God. It also makes me want to think about the good things that are happening instead of worrying about bad things.
P.S. Please leave lots of comments!

MADDIE! That post was wonderful! It sounds like you really enjoyed the book "Bruchko" and learned lots from it. You are an amazing young lady, and your desire to have more faith in God is an encouragement to ALL people... no matter how young or old! Thank you for writing about the things you learned in this book!
I want to know more about your school there in Kara... Do you go every day, Monday-Friday, like here in Memphis? Who teaches your class? How many students are in your class? Do you study the Kabiye language in school? What are your favorite and least favorite parts about school? (sorry, that is a lot of questions!) ;)
I love you very much and hope you will continue to keep us updated through your blog! :) you are beautiful, and we miss you. Claire
Maddie,
I am very happy to see how you are doing in Togo. That book sounds very interesting. I look forward to hearing about the other books that you read. Books are amazing and can really help you learn about parts of the world you may never go. If you can read, you can teach yourself amazing things. I am very proud of you and miss you very much. I look forward to having you back in the States this summer before you head back to the field with your parents.
Maddie-
It sounds like Bruchko is a good book. Someday maybe you will write a book about your adventures in Togo! I am so glad that you feel good about being in Kara. I know that Hannah is happy to have you there as a friend!
I pray for all of you there, and know that God is giving you more faith every day.
Love, Fran (Hannah's Grandmother)
Hey, Maddie!
I just left a comment on your more recent entry--just wanted to add that I am ordering a copy of Bruchko from Amazon.com--if you like it so much then I want to read it too!
